Pale Imitation

Imitation they say is the sincerest form of flattery however it often pales to the original, checkout Ciara below trying hard to be Beyonce. I have already counted 3 Beyonce videos sampled - Upgrade You, Single Ladies and Diva.

What made Ciara stand out in her debut days was her ability to dance, to me this is the key ingredient she should be selling, the market is deficient of ladies that are excellent dancers/entertainers and I believe that this could be a strong selling point for her.

In my humble opinion, this video should have been more of a dance off between Justin and Ciara i.e. taking a leaf (and not a blow by blow copy) of "Scream" featuring Michael and Janet Jackson.

I don’t know what is wrong with the music industry nowadays, everyone just wants to be "sexy", whatever happened to pure talent, pure entertainment, the business called show?

Compare the Ciara video to Beyonce's, can you see the similarities? In other sampling news, is it me or does "Love, Sex and Magic" sample “Rock Your Body”?

Love, Sex and Magic – Ciara and Justin Timberlake

Single Ladies - Beyonce

Upgrade You – Beyonce

Diva – Beyonce

Rock Your Body – Justin Timberlake (Youtube is restricting music video access, this is the best I could find)

Scream – Michael and Janet Jackson

All kinds of abuse

There is a lot of buzz on the internet about Chris Brown’s alleged assault on Rihanna (checkout http://www.tmz.com/ amongst the many websites reporting this) and in true form a lot of people have voiced their opinions (where is the fun, if we don’t voice our opinion eh, I’m doing so right now!) and one of the common themes is that Rihanna should leave him or she is stupid if she doesn’t leave him/ chooses to stay with him.

It is often easier for us to judge or say things when we are not in the situation and often not most of us may not even do what we advise when the situation is turned around.

Abuse is not only physically hurting someone (once or repetitively), but could take a mental or verbal form, and in my opinion the latter hurts the most and is more destructive. Just ask some (not all) anorexic or bulimic or fat person, they might divulge that at some point in their life, someone poked fun at their weight or they had an abusive past.

One thing that came to mind strongly was how easy it was to be or end up in an abusive relationship/situation, without realing you are in one or how you got there and often getting out is often easier said than done.

In my humble opinion many of us have been abused mentally/verbally and may have done nothing (or not immediately).

Let me break it down with a common denominator/theme – How many of us have been abused in our jobs and are still in the same employment?

Some Examples:

  • When that manager ignores all your hard work and talent, does not promote you time and time again but promotes some no hoper who doesn’t know squat, that is abuse!
  • When that manager/colleagues ignores all your hard work and talent, does not bother to recognise/acknowledge your contributions and efforts. And even when he/she bothers to, they make it out like its nothing and then makes some snide remark about it is something any rat with a tail could do, that is abuse, especially when it is repetitive and goes on for a long time.

  • When your manager promotes their mate/brother/fancing them/”insert what you like here” not because of their talent but ignores you who are the bees knees and rightly deserves it, it is abuse!

  • When your colleagues use derogatory or abusive language or better still don’t talk to you/ignore because you don’t matter that is abuse!

Call it "favouritism", "networking", "nepotism", "playing the game", “whatever you like”, I call it abuse! Abuse is defined by dictionary.com as one or more of the following:

1. To use wrongly or improperly; misuse: to abuse one's authority.
2. To treat in a harmful, injurious, or offensive way: to abuse a horse; to abuse one's eyesight
3. To speak insultingly, harshly, and unjustly to or about; revile; malign.
4. To commit sexual assault upon.
5. Wrong or improper use; misuse: the abuse of privileges.
6. Harshly or coarsely insulting language: The officer heaped abuse on his men.
7. Bad or improper treatment; maltreatment: The child was subjected to cruel abuse.
8. Rape or sexual assault.

To abuse someone (whether verbal, physical or mental) is to rape them (I can imagine Nigerians who know me saying hmm… Bunmi na wa oh, rape loun loun!) . Rape is to seize or carry out an act on someone else without their consent and by force, therefore if someone or some people force their abusive thoughts, conducts, etc on you, that is rape, that is a violation of whom you are!

Now back to the original story, until it is confirmed as true or proven guilty I am going to take the Chris/Rihanna thing as “allegedly”, however if it turns out to be true, I ask God to give Rihanna the strength to overcome the captivity, fear, and demons of an abusive relationship. And I pray that for Chris Brown God helps him understand the gravity of what he has done, makes him learn and truly repent from his mistakes and to permanently forsake any abusive behaviour.

PS: Chrissypoo, if you are proven guilty, then "that" (the abuse) was a truly stupid thing to do, what a setback for someone who had so much in store for him, I pray your career survives the backlash *weeps*.

Loving.....

I’m loving Lady Gaga's Just Dance at the mo’. Something about Lady Gaga’s just dance reminds me of Ebenezer Goode by “The Shamen”, I can’t put a finger on it though?

Lady Gaga - Just Dance

You might have to endure the shameless plug of ringtones, as the these are the only videos on youtube that provides the facility of embedding the video.

Better Things In Store For Miss Kelly

I for one am happy about last week’s news that reported that Kelly Rowland and Matthew Knowles have parted ways. Matthew Knowles in my opinion did not market Kelly well. I remember being at the Beyonce concert and there were call outs of the people he managed and they didn’t call Kelly’s name, I mean they called Solange’s each time right after Beyonce but no mention of Kelly, and they did this like about 10 times, hmmm! Kelly is a bigger artist than Solange and no mention? What gives Papa Knowles?

I wish Kelly Rowland all the best in the future, I pray God prospers her in her endeavours and helps her find her very own niche market where she will succeed excellently.

Standing next to Victoria Beckhams would make anyone look fat

Is it me or does the slender Dita Von Teese look considerably chubbier standing next to Victoria Beckham?

Dita is known for her slender frame but look at her standing next to Vicky B?

Which means that Victoria Beckham must be extremely thin if a thin person could look fat beside her.

In other news the photo was taken at a Paris fashion show, I must admit this looks like her natural habitat and like I said yesterday her public persona is not charity mission in West Africa. She is very lucky that she married a man who can fit into many scenarios easily. With him by her side I can see Brand Beckham with a long shelf life.

PS: A note to Vicky B, please ease up on the spray tan, too much of it looks tacky and we wouldn't want that now would we?

PPS: I love the Hermes Birkin Bags that Victoria Beckham carries about, she must have one in every colour. It is becoming part of her image I think. One day I too will be able to afford one :)

Vive David Beckham visiting the country of conflict diamonds

Watched David Beckham on TV tonight on his Unicef mission to Sierra Leone in West Africa, check it out here. He looked so at home carrying that child, it melted my heart towards brand Beckham and me hoping that he adopts an African child a la Mmes Richie and Jolie-Pitt. I can't see Victoria looking comfortable doing the same, it just seems out of her press character i.e. pouts, posing, et al. David just looked like a natural.

In other news - my heart goes out to the people of Sierra Leone, they need all the help they can get and I hope David Beckham's visit enlightens people on their plight and encourages people to help in making their world a better place.

Glutton for punishment/things old

I believe that I may have done myself an njustice by watching the same film twice unawares of course.

"Philadelphia Story" and "High Society" are the films in question by the way.
I didn't realise they were the same film until I watched one after the other in daily succession.

You see I watched "Philadelphia Story" yesterday, it was over the top, funny and entertaining plus Katherine Hepburn's accent was ridiculous however the casts which included Cary Grant were good. I have just started to watch High Society when I noticed the striking similarity when the interviewers arrived to interview the bride, this led me to wiki the film and it was then I realised the error.

I was tempted to stop watching High Society however the difference between it and the other film is that it is a musical and has different actors (Grace Kelly, Bing Cosby, Frank Sinatra, Louis Amstrong, etc) therefore probably a different take on the original plus I have always wanted to see it as a child but always ended only seeing a snippet or so. So I guess to get closure I need to watch the film.

PS: High Society is turning out good so far, they are singing songs I know and like e.g. "True Love" and now I know where "Who wants to be a millionaire" got that phrase/saying from.
